My guess is get hold of a kit with modified oil pump, crankcase cover and nozzle but they are around around $430 but if the pump is like the pump on earlier Yamaha 4 strokes it will be well worth the money

I have to ask Why do you want to modify the oil pump? Do you have no oil pressure? I'd be afraid of seizing the engine if the mod went wrong... To be safe I'd replace it with a new one if there's a problem with it...

Are you talking about the Oil Mod for the YFZ or a high flow oil pump?

I guess he means the high flow pump as the title to the thread is oil pump mods. Mind you the XT250 used to eat cams & cylinder heads until the oil pump was factory modded does the 450 suffer the same ?

Not necessarily true Jim. In 2007 the Yfz made substantial changes to the oil system from the 04-06's. They added squirt holes through out the motor to keep it cooler and its called the oil mod. The biggest one is the oil port that shoots up to the bottom of the piston that was added. I had this done to my motor after the piston blew up in it, due to not having this mod. So either of us could be right. We shall see!

ok! Ya we are talking about the same system, but no need to buy all of that stuff to get the upgrade. Can be done at home with a drill and an o-ring.

So the oil pump remains unaltered ? it's odd for an oem kit to over supply (things may have changed tho) parts. So I guess the nozzle has a larger bore to supply more oil to the small end and piston skirt ? If so how does the stock pump keep up with the need to deliver more oil ( & maintain the Oil pressure)? At the very least I would have thought the oil pump would have been geared up (to spin faster) to obtain enough oil through put to ensure the oil pressure and feed to the rest of the engine is not compromised.
Just seems odd to me that you don't have to change the pump.
Regards Jim

Of course a bigger oil pump will be better in either cases. I know my bike and a few other people that put the oil mod in didnt need the bigger pump and still dont.
