stock gearing is 13/48
lots of guys like dropping the front sprocket but I really don't like going any lower than a 13 due to it being fairly small already. maybe jump to a 50 or so rear sprocket and that will make it feel like you have more power but it will take away from your top end speed slightly. I would recommend a good full exhaust but stay away from FMF, DG, and all of the cheap cheap ones on ebay as they will just produce more noise and not benifit you in any way really. Your best bang for the buck is going to be porting your head... and in this aspect you get what you pay for. Jim Bob down the street may do it for you for $20 and a 12 pack and that will be appealing compared to a well known shop that wants $500 to do it but they will produce and 99x out of 100 back up their work. You already have 12.5:1 compression, so I would think that you will be alright with the stock slug and stay safe on pump gas unless you feel like paying $7/gal. for race fuel. Once worked over the 250f can be very potent and give plenty of 450's a run for their money. You might also want to look at getting your carb bored while you have the head off, if you decide to go that route. Possibly even check out some different cams... there are different lift/duration combo's available and should be chosen based on your riding style. For instance Hot Cams... Stage 1 are a more low end stump pulling torque monster for tight trail riding and will cost you a bit up top, Stage 2 is a good cam for increase across your entire powerband, and Stage 3 is a top end screamer that will all but kill your bottom... great cam if you live on the limiter. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me and I'll do what I can to help you out, I don't have the most experience with the 250F but I know my way around an engine fairly well. |
