Question Help with xs cancelling unit

I need help with the cancelling unit on my 80 xs850. Im having too much trouble with old used ones burning up and sick of rebuilding them. Now i seem to be stuck. Its eitber a used one for $20 or i found a new one for $80! Ive heard of a way to bypass the unit but cant find any info. Cant be hard its only 4 wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You guys in the states must have a very cut down version of the self canceling unit .. In the UK you have the speedo sensor (4 wires) built into the speedo head and then the self cancel unit which had a few more wires attached ... but if either way just cancel the indicator manually ... no great hardship ... but don't forget if the speedo does not work (broken cable etc) the indicators will not self cancel
