i have read the post's no one has what what it MIGHT be. so i said its probably valves.. i kwno if the valves are off (cause some college idiot was messing with it trying to get more power) could make it that bad...OR some college idiot could have been running WAYY too hard or running it on land and blew the motor..I HAVE PROOF A BLOWN MOTOR CAN STILL RUN

Ok thats what I thought.

A GP1200R is a TWO stroke motor with NO intake and NO exhaust valves in the cylinder head like you stated. Each cylinder has a set of intake reed valve petals but there is no way the piston can hit them. It does have a timing exhaust "Power Valve" that only reduces and enlarges the exhaust port with a flat valve that wont hit the piston, unless the stem breaks.

I had this exact same ski and well Timmay, I dont want to offend you but please do not throw ideas out to people when you dont know what your talking about. Same goes for me up in the motorcycle section, im not in there giving poor advice on someones R6.

Im trying to hook the guy up with a few people I know that live in Cleveland.

so a little update the mechanic finally started to tear it apart on saturday and started inspecting. they noticed that on top of the cylinders was Black and he said that it is most likely a (burnt cylinder) is what they called it.. all three cylinders had this black on it but 2 were not very bad. Said they were gunna put some acid on them to see if the black will clean up but he said one of the cylinders looked pretty bad, he might have said pitted. This was just the beginning of the teardown just from visually inspecting it. Havent got back to us about the complete teardown yet, expecting to hear something tomorrow. Took the one ski home that was working and went to the lake with it. It started and idled FINE but as soon as you went to give it throttle it would go for a second then BOG and sometimes the engine would shut off. Tried and tried for about an hour experimenting with the choke and the only way to keep it running while giving it any throttle at all you had to really play with the choke and still would eventually shut off. Its quite obvious its not getting gas somehow and my guess would be that the Carb is clogged. NOTE that these were in storage for four straight years without being ran and the Fuel selector kept ON. anyone else think this is a carb issue???? if so how much would they charge to clean out the carb? Rough estimate?? taking it back to the mechanic tomorrow.

waverunner, I just sent you a PM. Remove and send me your carbs and I will go through them if you would like.
yea after 4 years your high speed jets are clogged, also if I was you Ide install a primer while your carbs are off. This means removing your choke plates and its well worth it.

Mick

UPDATE!!!! Went up to the mechanic today to drop off the ski with the carb issue and they updated us on the ski with engine probs. Turn out, the kids that owned the skis NEVER BROKE THAT ONE IN. and completely rounded the pistons. They said they are almost positive that all the cylinders can be saved which is a huuge money saver. also the power valve pin broke on one of the cylinders. so basically they will be replacing all three pistons and replacing all three pins and should be running like its brand new.
