Thx but got some bad news. first off we bought these skis of of craigslist off of two college kids who only put 67hrs on the engines. They looked in AMAZING shape and they had these skis serviced every winter and even had the receipts and EVERYTHING so we went ahead and got them. Before we wanted to drop them in the water we took them to a certified yamaha dealer/mechanic to have everything gone over since they have not been run since 2006. turns out one of the skis has a bad engine. Then mechanic says he did a compression test and it only the result was a compression of 25. he said it should be around 225. (hearing this from my mother who heard it from my father, forgive me if im wrong here.) the mechanic wants $400 just to look and pinpoint exactly whats wrong then go on with repairs from there. is this going to be worth spending the money to fix??? Its a pretty big punch in the gut spending 7,000 on two jet skis and a trailer when one doesnt run. ughh. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
The compression on a stock GP1200R should be 150 +- 5 psi on each cylinder.
Be sure to do this with the throttle wide open with all the spark plugs removed.
Anything above 150 and you will need to jump up to 93 octane fuel. Anything above (for me) 180 run 50/50 race fuel and 93 and above 200 run straight race fuel.
Take some pictures and post them. The ski's you have are not hard to work on. What part of the country are you at?
If your mechanic wants 400 just to give you an idea whats wrong, then change mechanics.
Consider looking at SBTontheweb.com OR SBT.com for a new motor with a year warranty with an exchane on your motor.

Dont get scammed dont be handing out money to blood sucking mechanics.

Yes there is a flush line under the seat of your ski and it has a screw on cap. You can call a dealer to get you the part that you need to connect to your water hose but you can save a load of money by calling Riva Motorsports [Only registered can see links. ] and talk to Brian Drucker. Tell him Quick Mick of Houston sent you.
Best thing to do is let me know where you are and I will try and find one of my friends to see if one of them live near you. Yea us ski racers have friends all over the USA and then some.
FIND and go to a local jet ski riding area/boat ramp, find some of the hot rod jet ski guys. Jump in and tell them what you have and im sure one can and will help you.
Sorry you got ripped, but is it to late to go back and try and get your money back?

Sorry for the late reply, I smashed one of my fingers and its hard to type.

Mick

ya im in ohio Akron area 1 hour south of cleveland. my dad is actually the one handling the jetskis and he took it to a certified yamaha dealer to just go over them and tune up since being sat since 2006. The dealer is the one who discovered the dead ski and wants the $400 just to pinpoint the issue they said if its the worst case scenerio it would cost around 3,000 to fix which i think is WAYYYY HIGH considering the whole SBT engine is only 1,595. But hey its my dads money not mine. If he wants the dealer to mess with it then so be it. its not costing me a penny. and yes i did locate the flush line, shortly after i posted this thread. Thx Everyone ill let u know what they say once they find out. Said they should know something tomorrow or friday.

yeah..upwards of 3k to fix is BS, 400 to find whats wrong is BS also...its kinda sounds as if the yami mech dont know what he is doing if he says it is suppose to be at 225 and quickmick says 150 give or take 5...id say go on google and look up ma & pa shops..they wont screw you over on prices...i only take my toys to Ma & Pa cause its a ton cheaper then stealers!!!
