1100 triples use a LOT of oil (and fuel). It's normal to smoke.
Also-depending on the model, if they sit for a while, oil can siphon from the tank, through the pump, through the lines and run directly into the intake, which fills the crankcase. And then they REALLY smoke. Yamaha sent out a bulletin "back in the day" which dealt with this. If the problem was encountered after sitting, there were a set of check valves that could be added to the oil lines to help prevent it from happening. Most of the 1200's came with the check valves. If it's sat for a while, yeah, they'll smoke terribly. Just run it. A 5 min run at wide open across the lake usually burns it all out and gets it back to normal. |
