New rider looking at ski... questions before buying

There is a guy in town selling two waverunners, a 1989 and 1988.

Is it still easy to find parts for these?

I do not want to buy if something breaks and I can't fix it. I'd rather not go out and buy an expensive machine when I have never ridden one. I want to get a cheap one first just to play around on the water with it, learn to ride, and understand em before I go out and get an expensive one and break it.

Boats.net seems to have a good listing of parts available for waverunners 1987 and up. Never done business with them just saw the web site.
