Default New to Jet Ski's in Houston Area (League City)

Hi- Recently bought a 2002 FX140 for my teenage son. He's been a soccer playing nut since 3 therefore I did not want to invest in a new ski if the water sport thing does not work for him (us). Anyway, had it out last week and ran pretty well overall. Not sure what to expect from a stock ski. Have a couple of questions I'm hoping to get some opinions with.

1-While running on the hose at home I have a little hesitation or "bog" when I hit the throttle off of idle. I can feather the throttle to get past it and it runs smooth and is responsive at higher RPM's. Changed plugs. Seems to idle better but same hesitation off idle still exsists. Any ideas?

2-When out on the lake last week I can top it out at at about 8500+ RPM according to the dash tach. This is at about 3/4+ throttle. If I pull the throttle all the way the RPM's actually drop to 8000 with a few MPH less speed. Is this normal?

As I said we're new to ski's so not sure what to make of the thing yet.

I appreciate any comments or advice.

Thank you.
