Just picked up a 2006 VX110 Sport, 45 hours. We installed new plugs, new gas (non-ethanol), used Ring Free on cylinders. Out of the water, RPM's scream up to 8000. The minute the ski is in the water the RPM's drop to 6000 or less, the ski will do 10 - 15 MPH tops. We think it's intake or impeller related. Any experience with this issue and a fix would be appreciated, got a 16-year old itching to ride.

You should be able to inspect the jet pump at the rear of the ski. Look for signs of dings or bends/chips in the pump. If found, this may cause the issue.
I would suggest checking the compression of your cylinders. When you run it out of the water there is no drag/load on the motor. When in the water you now have drag/load and a engine with low compression will not pump out the power to reach it's top RPM's. I am sure there could be some other explanations, but that is what I would check. |

your not going to get the same peak RPM in the water as you do out of the water. Once there is a load on the prop, not going to peak out as it would with no load.
