I have a question about Yamaha Virago's from 1981 and 1982.
I bought an 81 virago from my dad (original owner) about a year ago. It was in mint condition, but buying it, I knew I was getting into a certain number of problems that old bikes have. I'm sure you are all aware of the starters and the carbs. The diaphrams from the carbs in those two years are no longer made(only custom that I can find) and the starter sounds like a box of rocks. Does anyone know of somewhere the carbs are available. Also, would the engine from an 83 or 84 bolt directly up to an 81?? I really like the 81 style, but wouldn't mind having the less flawed construct of the 83 engine. It is my understanding that the starter prob was resolved then as well as a more common carb. (not made by hitachi.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks JD |

I have a 1985 Virago 700 and the starter problem has not been resolved by yamaha, it looks like that Yamaha was never interested to resolve this problem. Beside the starter it is a great bike.
