Default 1992 Timberwolf 250 starting issue

I have fresh new battery and new starter solenoid. I have to use pair of pliers to jump the solenoid to make the starter turn the flywheel. I can not use the start button to make the starter turn. I have checked most of the wiring harness connectors including taking the light/stop.run/and start button assembly on the handlebars and can't not figure out why the push button will not operate. I would like to get this figured out before i move onto getting the engine to crank up. Once we have this figured out i can move on to the carb or other parts that keep it from firing up.

when i jump the solenoid it turns the starter enough to make exhaust fumes come out for split second, so i believe its getting spark to cylinder. any help will be much appreciated.

also with the fresh battery and fresh starter solenoid when the key is turned on i'm not getting the lights to light up on the handlebar column. Somethings not making a connection but i'm willing to try anything to troubleshoot so throw some suggestions out there. Thanks.

Ok ended up not needing the Starter Cut off relay, I put the good used wiring harness on it after going from one end to the other and re-taping the whole thing (looks brand new because of that). I was making sure everything was going to work.

Got it on this after noon and hooked the battery up and WOW I have a neutral light and i hit the start button and it made noise....i was very happy at this point. pulled the choke still didn't wanna crank...held hand over end of the air tube like you would a weedeater to help it crank and voila...it fired up.

I stopped the engine. changed the oil and filled it up. during the oil change i had to lift the gear shift to remove crankcase oil plug and apparently i did something underneath there because now i have no neutral light again but i can still hit the start button...but now it won't crank. END OF DAY...lol

In the morning i'm going to check all the connections again and make sure that i didnt knock something loose again(palms face).
