Default Anybody own an 87 or 88 Big Bear...HELP!

I have a 1988 Big Bear that I am trying ti fix up, it's missing a lot of parts, but runs great. I have been trying to figure this out for a couple weeks with no luck and hope somebody here can help me.

On a 1988 Yamaha Big Bear there is a hand shift lever located on top of the left front fender that shifts the machine from high, to low, to reverse. This shifter has 2 cabbles attachet to it. The main cable (referred to as cable 1 in books) does the actual shifting and connects to the arm on the transmission.
There is a second cable (referred to as cable 2 in books) that is missing. I know where it connects on the shifter, I need to know where the other end goes.....
I am hoping somebody out here can look at their machine and help me figure this out. The cable end has a loop to connect to something, and down the cable from the end there is a spring. Where do these connect?

Hi, I have an 88 model big bear.

The cable in question attaches to the top of the foot brake cable where all the other return springs are. Not sure what it's for, but this is where it goes........

If you know hat it does, I'd like to know myself.

Cheers.

Anthony.

Anthony,
My 2001 Kodiak has 2 cables off of the shifter as well. The shifter has a latching mechanism. when you step on the foot brake, the cable releases the mechanism so you can shift the bike between forward and reverse.
