Default '01 BearTracker - Advice on Rejetting

I have an '01 Yamaha Beartracker 250 that was bone stock when I bought it used and it ran great, it was just different colors from where the plastics had been replace. Painted it "Yamaha Blue" and put new Yamaha stickers back on it. Wanted to give it some more attitude so I bought an FMF slip on muffler for it. Sounds great but I have to ride with the choke 1/2 way and that's not good. I know I need to rejet for the better flow but not sure how much to go up. Right now the carb is stock: 95 main jet, 42.5 slow jet, original needle with clip on the third notch. What jet/needle combination should I go with to get it flowing correctly again?

No thanks for anyone here, but just in case someone else has this same issue:
- Mixture screw is exactly 2 1/2 turns from bottom.
- Main jet goes up two sizes from 95 to 100.
- Slow jet goes up only one size from 42.5 to 45
- Make sure you have a new spark plug

Just joined up. I have a 94 Timberwolf. Did your rejetting give you any more torque? I am looking for more low end grunt, not increased speed. It already goes faster than I want to fall off.

It was a combination between the jetting and the FMF pipe that I put on it that gave it some more umph. Not much of a difference but it does seem to have more power all the way through the rpm range which is nice for the little 250. I have updated the clutch disks in it since then and replaced the springs with a set of performance springs from a 350 Big Bear. There is a slight difference in spring size, but it has really made a difference in pulling my bigger tires in those "unavoidable" mud holes.

Never had that issue but it sounds like you need to make some adjustments to your shifter. check the site out for instructions on shifting adjustment, should be about the same for several different models.
