Default XJ900F Leaking Fuel

Hi all,

I have a 1985 Yamaha XJ900F, which has recently started leaking fuel. I've washed it all down with degreaser and washed that off and have found that the fuel seems to be coming from the tap itself. This leads to believe that I need to find a washer kit or something similar and pull the whole lot apart and put all new seals etc in it.

My first problem is this: the vaccuum sealed fuel tap doesn't seem to be vaccuum sealed. I pulled the fuel hose off the end of the tap and wore nearly a half litre of petrol before I could get the hose back on, meaning its going to be very difficult and messy to fix.

Has anybody had this lack of vaccum problem before, how did you fix it, and was it easy to do?

Cheers!
