hi to all
I bought an 09 Midnight Star 950 a few days ago. It's in brand new condition and less than 5000 miles. I asked the sales guy how long the drive belts lasted and he said about three years. The answer puzzled me a little as I expected him to quote me in miles. I've read figures of 40, 60, and even 100 thousand miles from the belts. Is this true? When the time comes are they an expensive item? And do the front and rear pulleys wear? |

Belt life is partly determined by riding conditions. I know where I live, with a mile of gravel road to my house, I am likely to have to replace my belt sooner than someone who rides only on pavement. But the modern belts are tough tough tough. Kevlar and all kinds of high-tech stuff going on. Should last approximately the life of the sxoot, if you are fortunate and keep the tension properly adjusted. The only reason for sprocket wear would be slippage or grit, so again tension and cleaning should be your preventive maintenance tasks and enjoy the ride! |
