Cool v-star 1100 Classic

I am having trouble starting my v-star. It is acting like a weak battery, but the battery is new. It is not an ignition problem. It turns over then stops then turns over again. It takes several tries to get it to start. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? I would greatly appreciate any help.

I had the same issue just recently. Unfortunately it turned out to be a know issue with a stater clutch gear that had wore out.

I had the starter clutch replaced about 2 years ago. I was hoping that was not it. That is an expensive repair. Is there anything else it might be?

Check the starter, sometimes if the starter is getting weak it can give this type of problem. When it stop to turn, hit the starter with a hamer if it turns again it is almost sure that your problem could be the starter.

Just because the battery is new doesn't automatically mean that it's got enough amperage to crank that engine over. You want to have it load tested. If the load test shows voltage drop below 10 volts, it's got a problem.

The 1100 usually starts pretty easily but they don't tolerate low voltage.

Typically a starter clutch "rattles" or "clanks" when cranking. Unless you've heard that rattle in the past, chances are the starter clutch is good.
