Lost Keys what do I do??

I lost my keys to my yamaha v star 650 classic. I bought this bike from an individual and only got 1 key from her and it's lost. It was dark and confusing when I got home last night and now we can't find it anywhere! What can I do??

I would give Yamaha a call or your dealer. They will get some information from you and your bike and have another one sent to you. For a price of course!

Do you have the little silver tag that the key came with originally? Yamaha might need the number that's on that little silver plate to get you another key cut.

Okay here's the deal. I bought this bike used so I didn't have but 1 key and no silver thingy. Also I am being told by the dealer they need the key code off the ignition switch but the locksmith can't find it and the key he made is from the wrong key blank. The dealer wants the code before he will give the key blank to us even though I have the vin number. ARGG. I can't get my engine guards off!

Yea, the code the dealer is talking about is on the silver key tag (my guess) since it would be way too easy to get a key made just by looking at the ignition. Good luck, but I don't see this being too cheap. I always recommend to everyone to get a duplicate made for just this reasons but someone always seems to loose a key

Yeah yeah, I know make duplicates, the problem I had is with finding someone who can make the key. I found one place and called but couldn't find them when I went looking for them. Now people are wanting the bike at the locksmith. I can't get it up there.

Ouch, there's no locksmith that comes out to you?

So I just did what you did with my 650 classic. What worked finally?
