Default starter issues

I have a 2006 v-star 1100 silverado. My starter one-way assy seems to be broken. I was wondering is this something that is relatively common or did I get a an unusual problem? I was always raised with yamaha being the cream of the crop so to speak. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default One way starter clutch

Sorry to hear about your one way clutch for the starter. I just priced one. $455. I can't understand how they can expect people to pay those prices for parts. From what I understand, this is a pretty common problem with Yams. The good deal I got on this bike just went out the window with this repair.

well I got the upgraded parts since the original is not being produced anymore. I think it was a part manufacturing defect but the new one is thicker and heavier duty so maybe this will fix it permanently but I am seriously thinkin of getting either a honda or going to the bigger road star bike. Anyone hear anything bad about the upgraded parts that are out?
