Default Yamaha R1 feedback please

Hi everyone i have been reading through some postings on here and thought your opinions could help me make a choice.

I am currently riding a K7 GSXR 1000 but i love the new R1 to the point when i am about blow 12k on one. I do have some questions though and all magazines have different comments. Hence comments from actual riders would be far better.

1. How comfortable is it, i am 6'3 and about 95kg and do some touring as well as sunday morning blasts. Last thing i want is pain in my wrists
2. Handling, i have heard the OE tyres are rubbish and should be changed straight away.
3. Heat from exhaust on back of the leg.

Your opinion really counts here and any other comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

Polski would probably be your best bet on knowing the odds and ends of a R1. He's also looking into buying one instead of his R6 so I would listen to him if I were you. Adam might now a good bit about them also.

well from what I have heard, it could be a lil difficult for tall riders. The same problem is faced by the people in India who ride the mini version of Yamaha R1, launched as Yamaha R15

its better if you could make a trial ride of it .. on a long stretch just to be sure

To be honest, the Yamaha's are more track ready than they are for everyday/long ride riding. My r6 handles insanely well, but after a longer ride you can feel it. The height fact isn't a big deal and to be honest with you, I think the r1 sits better than the r6. I'm just shy of 6' and the r1 feels better than the 6 as far as stance for me.

2. Handling, i have heard the OE tyres are rubbish and should be changed straight away.

If you got the funds, then change out the tires. You can probably sell the OEM's for about $120 or so if they are brand new when you sell them. I replaced my stock Bridgestone's on my '07 6 and put on the BT-016's and on the street they feel MUCH better. Depending on your riding style, and how often you replace tires on your bike NOW, getting a set of aftermarkets isn't a horrible idea.

3. Heat from exhaust on back of the leg.

I'm sure you're gonna get a little bit of heat. If you live in a warm area or on hot days, it could get warm. However, on the colder nights I'm sure it's gonna be a nice thing to have

Let us know when you pull the trigger and pick one up. Curious to see what your opinion on it will be. Any chance that the dealer you are thinking of buying it from will let you take it for a test spin?

Default R1 Update

Ok finally found a dealer that had one as a demo, rode it loved it. What an awesome bike i cant believe the response and pull from the thing. Anyway while in the showroom he intruduced me to an 2010 black model who someone had returned as they didnt test ride and upgraded from an R6 (he had it 3 weeks). Cut a long story short 460miles on the clock and when he brought it he spent alot on upgrades before he took delivery ie, full onlins setup, braided hoses and chain upgrade, i got it for 2.5k below new rrp.

Bring on the summer....

NICE! So it's a done deal? I'm guessing that by braided hoses you mean brake lines? Can't wait to see the pictures

Looks DAMN nice! Maybe get your rearsets and gas cap pc'd black and that thing will look sick as hell. And by the looks of it, it has Ohlins in the rear only, not in the front right?
