Default YZF R6 vs FZ1

Hello all... I'll be in the market for a new bike come the spring time and I am having a difficult time making a decision here. I've been riding/racing motocross, ATVs, woods races as well as regular road riding for sometime now, so experience isn't a big deal.

I have a long commute to work right now and am looking at ways to save my new truck for getting too old too fast, plus I really want to ride again. (Sold my last street bike little over a year and a half ago.)

I am looking at the R6 as well as the FZ1. I like the styling of the R6 alot better, althought the FZ1 isn't ugly by any means. I'm 6'4'' tall and I'm worried that the R6 is going to get cramped on commutes. The FZ1 definatlety feels better in the comfor department.

What I will be doing with the bike is purely street riding. My racing days are long over. I also think the FZ1 will be a little easier to ride for my purposes however, an R6 will also be toms of fun. Again, I'm not looking to race anyone or hot dog it on the highway, I just want a nice looking, responsive bike thats going to last me.

Thanks for any input.

The FZ's are a more upright bike. The SS's (R6/R1) are mainly for speed and therefore you will be in a much more hunched over position. If money is no object, take a look at an R1.
The R1 (to me) feels better as far as riding position compared to the R6. Best bet would be to go to your local Yami dealer and sit on the bikes you are looking at getting and maybe even taking it for a test ride if the dealer lets you do so.

Are you looking at a brand new bike or a used one?

I'd like to get a new bike, however the right used one may work. I just know what I did to bikes in my crazy days and was atleast honest enought to tell people!

I do like the R1, it is a really nice bike. I'm trying to stay under 10,000 and the dealer I'm working with can get me an R6 or FZ1 under 10. I've def. been checking them out. I sat on the R6 and FZ1. They do feel different, but again the R6 feels sportier and the FZ feels like it would be better for the long rides. I'll have to check out an R1.

Thanks for the input.

Yea, the FZ's are gonna be much better for commuting. Getting a 2009 R1 under $10k is hard but not impossible. In my area 0 mile '09 R1's are going for about $10.5k OTD but obviously that's gonna vary by location.
My buddy just picked up a 2009 R6 (0 miles) for about $8200 OTD. If you are going to be doing long commutes, then I think the FZ1 is what you want. But the R6 is a fun toy to play around on. Plus you can always take the sucker to a trackday or two

Amen to that... I'm loving the FZ1, but man, that raven black R6 is calling my freaking name. For commutes I like the FZ1... but then again, the R6 is so light and quick... I dont know man!!! Ive got awhile to think about it, but its a hard decision.

If I wanted the extra poop I would gladly get the FZ1. I love my FZ6 but the FZ1 is a great bike.

I'm new to yamaha too. Are there any active forums out? I tried Yamahaforum.net and .com. Both are very slow or inactive. There is a r1 and r6 site but I don't have those bikes. Help me and I may help you.
