Default 03 650 ds problem

my friend has a 2003 yamaha 650ds.
he was riding it one day and now the whole back axle is lose. i can grab a wheel and wiggle the whole axle. i think his wheel bearings on the rear are shot, but i could be wrong. A guy at Polartech (service shop) said to tighten a clamp on the rear and that would fix it. we tried a few times to fix it and its still broken. im used to working on my own car and i cant figure out how to get the axle off the quad to replace the wheel bearing. any help is appreciated, maybe its not the wheel barring.
thanks

Ok, If you can move the AXLE then it's NOT the wheel bearings, it's your AXLE bearings. Put a block or something under the the swingarm so the tires are off the ground and give the axle a wiggle. Make sure your bolts are nice and tight, if they are tight and the axle still moves, it's your axle bearings. Make sure your castle nut on the hubs are tight as well. If they are and your hubs move, then your WHEEL bearings are shot. Another thing to check while your doing this is, check where the swingarm meets the frame, If that moves around then those need replacing as well. Since you already have the manual, it shouldn't be a problem figuring out how to change them. Thats the first thing you want to do,....get a manual. Hope this helps.

yes the whole axle can be wiggled around in a circular motion and actually slid side to side a good 1inch. all the bolts on it are tight.
