Just for those who have a xf50, (mines a 2006 but their all the same), that won't start of quits often.
These Mopeds are fuel injected and have a fuel pump .... mine wouldn't cycle on for the typical 3 seconds at "key on". A fuel pump can be ruined by running it dry .... run the bike out of gas too often... and theres no hope of repair to the pump itself. They are a assembly with the gas level sender unit/float, a relief valve and the filter too...it costs over $230 new. My good news??? ... I found out an older model Yamaha scooter called the Majesty... I think their like 150cc, uses the exact same pump in it's assy. and can be found on Ebay often for $60-75. ( I bought a 2006 pump). Pump assemblies are easy to remove from the gastank, ( six 5mm bolts), and then the pump itself is easy take out of the assy. It basically is held into the main assemblies white plastic body by a white plastic "end cap" which also holds the fuel filter screen in place. Just pull back the three snaps on the end cap, remove it, and the pump sitting in a pocket undernieth will just pull out... only an o-ring holding it snug.(Pull the two wires off it first of course). The Yamaha service manual test for the pump is ...put a "Yamaha special tool"pressure guage in-line with the fuel line hose and with then wiuth the key turned on the bikes ECU computer will run the pump for about 4 seconds ... ... enough time to develop 35-36 PSI. Without the "specialtool", I just unhooked the fuel line from the pump, (on top of the tank), and put a regular pressure guage on it with a short piece of hose...held with hose clamps.... make sure it's secure... don't want it popping off spewing gas all over!! The Magesty pump, looking identical, pumped right up to the 35-36 in 2 seconds and then the relief valve held the pressure right at 36. PERFECT. Just FYI, the XF50 pump is sourced from Hyundai Co. the Magesty was made in Cheklsevakia .... but it's exactly the same. I saved close to $200. dave |
