Help with some I.D.

Hey guys new to the forum and to yamahas and motorcycles in general. I recently purchased a yamaha yz 60 off craiglist that Ive been fixing up as a summer project. The previous owner was not sure of the date but believed it was 1983, I always thought it was newer because of the great condition it was in. However at a quick google search it appears that only post 1981 yamahas have a 17 digit VIN mine only has 9. Anyway so if you guys have any idea what year this bike is or if you know any information about these bikes that would be great. The vin is 5X1-002677.

How I got it


Here it is now, sorry if the "restoration" offends anyone but this bike is meant to be ridden, I just touched up the paint in a couple places and added a homemade headlight so I can do a little bit of night riding. The UNI stickers are probably going to be taken off soon but there was already one on there so when I grabbed the new air filter I figured Id finish it off, also I feel its a waste of money to buy factory yamaha stickers.


I took the carb, exhaust and reeds out to give them a good clean now she runs like a champ, waiting to bring the gps on a ride to find out top speed. Thanks guys, Im looking forward to being a member of this forum.

by the looks of it the bike is about 82 and [Only registered can see links. ] confirms that, YZ60J, but the prefixes may alter in different parts of the world google yz60 5X1 any you may find so rare bits on the net.
