Default 2010 1200cc Yamaha Super Tenere gets R1 lights

Yamaha's drip-feed of information about the new 1200cc parallel twin Super Tenere continues.

The latest press release for the bike – which will rival the BMW R1200GS, new Ducati Multistrada and Triumph Tiger – contains a silhouette showing the headlight design is more R1 than XT660 Tenere.

The twin lights are side-by-side (rather than stacked as per the 660 Tenere) and appear to have R1-style projector bulb units.

The silhouette also shows boxy off-road-style panniers, reinforcing Yamaha’s hints that the bike will be going head-to-head to with BMW’s R1200GS, rather than aiming at Ducati’s more road-biased new Multistrada.

Super Ten technical highlights we already know about are:
- 3-mode ABS
- shaft drive
- linked brakes
- switchable engine maps
- ride-by-wire throttle
- traction control
- side-mounted radiators.

Given recent increases to Yamaha’s prices (the new R1 costs £12,499, new R6 is £9000), it’s difficult to estimate the new Super Tenere’s price when it arrives later this year. Our current bet is £11,000.

Not a bad idea for the "older crowd". Personally I don't know releasing a bike in these $hitty economic times. I think they should hold off a little bit seeing how even a basic bike is not selling so why come out with something that will drown even more dealers?

Totally agree. I would die if Yamaha stopped importing bikes like suzuki did this year.
