Going thru the same problem here. I am pulling carbs off to clean but can't get them off due to no room for a wrench. Fuel pump runs fine when unhooked from carb. Hook to carb and it stops. Friend said carbs probrobly dirty. '97 YZF 1000R so that sounds reasonable enough. 15 years of build-up if previous owners never did anything. I had just got gas myself and rode about 10 miles. Tried to start the next day and same issue you got. Luckily I was at home. Sorry let me know what you come up with. Not alot of timely help here. Check back next month and you may have 1 reply. Are you in america? I am but most folks on these Yammy sites are in the UK or Aussie. Bummer

Hi
Without teaching you to suck eggs, have you checked for a spark.
I am going through a similar problem with my sons '92 sr125. Different bike I know but same symptoms. After hours of checking wiring, coils, leads etc I have (hopefully) got it down to CDI
Keep us informed of the outcome, please
