I was given a FZR of unknown age and type. I know its a Genesis motored bike, I think its an 88 as it has two round headlights, but I cant read the build date on the Vin # on the Sticker on the frame. I was told that you can tell by the oil filter type (cartridge or spin on) of which mine is a spin on. Any info on this bike is greatly appreciated as I need to get tune up parts and carb kits for it so I can work on getting it running so I can use its pieces and parts to make one bad azz dune buggy

Hello and welcome to YF.
Take it to a bike shop/mechanic, your best bet as your description doesnt help much with identifing it, usually a good mech will be able to look at it and just know. engines will generally use the same parts for a spand of a few years, same oil filters and what not will fall into them. You can also start google image searching based on a guess or take pictures and post them up. Good luck and hopefully somebody else could help better

Post up the picture and then I'm sure people will be able to narrow it down. Can you clearly see the vin number of the bike? Because you can figure out the year from that too.

So the FZR had no changes in the carbs in its entire life, so no matter what year carbs you buy a kit off of/for, you will be good.
I have owned three FZRs so I would know
