Default Yamaha fj1100

I need help on my 1984 fj1100. The neutral light won't turn on. How can i fix this? Is there a neutral sensor somewhere? any help would be appreciated.

could be the light but yes there is. i'd bet on the bulb, they're just an incandescant gauge bulb, so it easily could've burnt out

ah I also forgot to ask if the starter motor turns when you press the starter button, sorry for the odd questions but as the oil light does not check also (it should come on when you press the start button) I'm trying to work out where in the electrics your fault lies
Regards Jim

Thanks Jim
The starter motor turns when i switch the start button. The oil light doesn't come on too. All the lights in the gauge are working. Except the neutral light. I just used the bike for 15 minutes and then it stopped running. I had to have my friend pick it up on his pickup.

so the bike is a non runner too ?
if so, did the bike just stop & the neutral light was no longer working or did you stop the bike & it re failed to start ?
if the bike stopped on you :-
run thro the obvious first (kill switches etc) if they work out ok take off the tank & seat check the connections to the HT & pickup coils. If these are ok it will need me to run thro a full diagnostic.
If the bike failed to restart :-
pull in the clutch lever and see if the motor then starts, if so its the bulb
if not you need to look at the above (the bike stopping on you)
The odd thing here is the oil light not coming on when you press the start button, did the bulb come on (with the start button pressed) before the neutral light blew ?
Regards Jim

The bike stopped running while I was on it. The kill switch works. The bulb(oil light) came on before the neutral light blew. The odd thing is the oil light should still light up even when I hit the start button while the kill switch is off. On/Off (killswitch) neither the neutral light or the oil light turns on. Even my signal lights don't work anymore.

I also tried pulling the clutch in. Nothing happens. Still the bike won't run. :'(
