Welcome to the forum BTW
perhaps you should post the question in the Classics forum ... but I'll have a go at answering it here.
First off you have not supplied much info ... does the starter soleniod click when you press the starter ?
does the bike start fine if it is jump started ?
is the engine charging the battery ( did the lights get brighter when the engine was revved ?) ?
post up some more info !
Regards Jim

Jim,
the starter selenoid does click when I try to start it. i have not jump started it i usually push start it (pop the clutch) when it dies. When the bike is reved the lights so not brighten or dim they stay the same.
sorry if it is not enough info. I really don't know what to do about the bike. My wife loves the bike and doesn't want to get rid of it.
Thank you for any info you can give me.

BTW
from that I guess the geni is at fault ... the TR1 suffered from the same fault but I guess as the bike is a bit older you may have a wiring problem I'll give you some readings to do
