Hi Dan,
Just use the gasket if it's new it will seal up fine... just remember to use the correct torque settings on the head bolts. We only had the AT2... the 175 version came to the UK under the DT model name in 1973 but I heard in the states you had CT1-B & CT1-E both 1970 the E model having 12v electrics & electric start ... the l/h engine cover looked deeper than the AT2 models that I worked on hence I thought it may be an E model ... but for 40 years old it is vgc

From what I understand, here in the U.S. the 175 came out as the CT1, then in '70, it was the CT1-B; in '71, the CT1-C, and in '72, the CT2. I kind of wanted an AT1, but this one was available and in nice shape with matching numbers, plus it's got a little more zip than the AT1, so it was a no brainer. Thank you for the info on the gasket. I'll de-carbon at the same time. It's a little hard starting when it's cold but once warm, it starts on the first kick, so I suspect the carb probably needs a little attention as well. On a side note, I've been to Ireland a few times (I have cousins in Westport Co. Mayo) and I always thought that would be a good place to have a little bike like the CT1 - when it's not raining. It is a beautiful country and I'm sure England is as well.

Hi Dan
you may find it's worth trying this :- remove the airbox , with the choke open put your hand over the back of the carb & start the engine ... with luck you may clear the blockage in the drilling in the float bowl with out removing the carb, but if you have to remove the carb :- remove the float bowl and you will see a brass tube (choke mech) which fits into a hole in the float bowl. The hole links to the base of the float bowl and supplies the neat fuel for the choke mech ... make sure this is clear !
Regards Jim

Thanks, Jim, I'll try it this weekend. I'm gonna bleed the front forks as well, since they probably have never been done.
