It would be a good start but would it help if he's getting spark? After all this simple stuff your gonna be getting into all that good stuff that requires removing the head ect. Fun stuff if ya like to be frustrated to no end. Deffinatly double check the carb before spending major money like that.

Is your oil injector working properly? Not trying to insult you or anything but there are lots of people out there that don't know much about quads and would overlook something like oil to fuel mixture in a 2-stroke engine.

You said the plug when you pulled it was clean and wet! wet would indicate fuel preasent but not firing. Try a new plug, and before you put the plug in squirt some gas in the cylinder (not!) alot but enough to fire. put the plug in and see if it fire's when you you crank it over! if does fire but still no start then you probably have a carb problem stuck float needle ect. Common ailment these days.
