Jim cured my clutch problem so on to getting it running right. I cleaned the main jet, changed gas and oil. Started fairly easy but was missfiring when excellerating. Gave it a shot of carb cleaner and that seemed to fix it and it ran great, that night. Took it for a ride yesterday and back to missfire and then died and wouldn't restart, luckily at the end of my drive. Alot of popping through the exhaust, I have a Supertrapp muffler and it's pretty loud. Today it started but still ran bad. It also seems like the exhaust pipe is REALLY hot, like maybe too lean? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help.

OK, I've been studying the manual. Could the "Coasting Enricher" be causing all of the popping and backfiring? What other jets should I be cleaning? This really seems like a carb problem especially since the bike has been sitting for 5 years. Since it seems to run fairly well at lower rpm's should I assume that it could be in the secondary part of the carb? Anything else I can do before I take the carb off??

Hey Jim,
I have done a visual inspection and saw nothing. Should I try a shot of carb cleaner or starting fluid around the carb with it running? I cleaned the primary jet on the primary carb yesterday and it didn't really help. I tried to get the jet out of the secondary carb without much luck. Just shot some carb cleaner in there with the plug out. I'm hoping to find a fix without pulling the carb. What do you know about the "Coasting Enricher"? In the front of the manual, page 8 I think, it talks about cleaning several different things that I could not find in the pics. It says it can cause alot of popping if not functioning right, which mine does. Thanks for the reply!!!! Doug |

I went up and down the street a couple of times tonight and found that if I rolled into the gas really slow it didn't missfire, much. Still alot of popping when I let off the gas. Is there some sort of accellerator pump on this thing??

I thought I would pull the tank off to check for air leaks and found that I'm getting some rust from the tank. I can see brown stuff in the new fuel filter that I put on and some of it is getting through as I caught the gas from the gas line and it had residue that got through the filter. Any hints on cleaning the tank? I still didn't see any obvious air leaks. I sprayed carb cleaner around the plastic manifold with it idling with no results.

I drained the tank and found that the filter with the long tube from the petcock had came off allowing the junk in the tank to pass through. The petcock was almost completely plugged, I don't see how it ran at all. Blew out the tank with the compressor, cleaned the petcock and put a new inline filter on and it seems to run great now!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the help. I've learned a ton about this bike in the last month.
