Default New to the forum

Hi,
I'm a new member to the forum and have a question for the clutch experts. I have a 1983 XT550 with a clutch problem. I had the clutch replaced about 6 years ago and the bike sat in my storage shed for the last 5 years. When I stored it I had adjusted the cable several times to disengage. I would ride it a little and it would need adjusted again. It's almost maxxed out as far as adjustment goes and still does not disengage. The shaft that goes into the case where the cable attaches now sticks when I pull the lever all the way in and almost seems like it isn't really pulling inside the case (if that makes sense). Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome
This should be your clutch

as you can see the clutch push(pull) rods disengage the clutch I would guess it's time to strip the clutch out again as my guess is that it was not reassembled correctly .... With the clutch arm 'sticking' this indicates the arm going 'over centre' and the rod (part 31) is getting trapped against it... sorry time to get the spanners out !

What we have is listed under our screen name (as far as bikes/quads/water toys go) and Jim is a resident vintage bike expert not just clutch expert

By the way, if you want it to show what you have, here's how to do it: [Only registered can see links. ]

Thanks Jim. I was afraid that is what you would say. It never really worked right after it was worked on. I'm not that familiar with working on motorcyles but pretty mechanical. I'm just finishing a Cobra replica that I did all the work on. Is there an online manual I can use to figure out what I need to do or should I just take to another shop? Would I need alot of specialty tools. What could I expect for a cost to have this fixed. The parts should be almost new as I probably only rode it about 100 miles after it was worked on. Thanks for the help guys!!
