This bike is my cousins ride and she got a bit scared of it because it would rev up out of control. This was due to poor springs on the advance timing so it "jammed" in advanced timing and wouldnt come back down. New springs and electronic ignition was installed. So now i got it running fairly good , but it has a little misfire and the right cyl that doesnt get as hot as the left cyl. What to do. I was hoping to not have to split the cam chain to get the cylinders off and rebuild them.
Cosmo !
First off to remove the Cylinder head you need to remove the engine from the frame but on the good point you don't need to split the chain .. just remove the tension and either undo the cam sprockets or remove the cam caps and fiddle the chain off the sprockets. Petrol in the oil is a valve problem (normal XS500) so just regrind the valves & fit new guide seals ... that should sort the problem

Thanks, that makes sense.
It is time to get serious and pull the top off and look inside.

Good Luck !!! the XS500 did take time to pull to bits and you need a big area to put all the nuts & bolts etc

Default 82 650 heritage

I recently bought a 1982 650 heritage special and have no spark. The bike has no battery but everything else is in place. Where should I begin to look to resolve this problem? PS the key was in the on position and the switch was on run.

Good Evening:
I have a 1982 750 maxim. It runs great but I keep getting the flashing warning light when I start it. when I push the reset button the light goes out but always returns when it is started again. I have a repair manual coming in the mail but was wondering what the flashing light means. I have never owned a bike with this feature. thanks!
