I am looking for a Repair/Shop Manual for a 1980 Yamaha model number 4R5-017913. It has set for about 10 years and was recently given to me. the Rear tire locks up on it (reason it has set) and I would like to do some research/reading before I dive into repairing it.
TIA!! |

I got it running a couple of months ago. Too late in the season to get my license and take classes on it. Going to take it to a shop to have the brakes worked on and a full checkup. then hopefully by spring I can get classes and take it for a spin!!
BTW all it took was new plugs, fuel hoses, battery, stator engine cover, starter chain/gear, and some carb work. Not bad for sitting 10 years!! |

My 82 Maxim 400 XS400J 12R00 took some work too and now also running good after 16 years of sitting.
I am suspicious that the Mikuni BS34 Carburetor on the right side was made of inferior metal as it had a hard to see crack in the float area on the out side of the float valve housing. this bike never ran right always flooded or leaked fuel sometime over flowing the crank case and pump out the vent line back into the air filter intake. also when I got it out of storage the idle screw plate /w the screw was broken off just sitting below where it fell off on the crank case. I have never seen that before. Once a put some epoxy on it and put in the new float valve and needle it has been running better than it ever did brand new in 1982. Yamaha dealer never could figure out what was wrong I only discovered it because fuel had dried in the carb so I took them apart and when I removed the float cover and sprayed some carb cleaner inside that is when the crack was revealed. I am having to settle for unleaded 93 octane fuel here but better than nothing. No lead additives or octane boost available in Palawan. |
