Default 82 xj650 oil sensor issue

I have an issue where the oil level in the glass is clearly sufficient but the oil sensor is not allowing the cycle to start, or even turn over. Damn safety features. Can these be cleaned? or am I getting a new one. Or can i bypass it? Bike only has 16K on it but was dormant for 25 years til 2 years ago. Thanks
