Default 1971 Yamaha CT1 spark problems

My 1971 Yamaha CT1 is not always firing. I get a spark only sometimes and all the wires and connections seem to be fine. How can I find out where the problem is?

odds are in the distributor, I don't know too much about how they ran ignition on bikes back then, but I'm guessing it's not too different from a friend's '69 Sprite... so the distributor is a weekly maintenance item.
also did you check the points & condensor?

I'm sure you will get an expert opinion from Techguy when he shows up

The coil and condenser are new and the points I just adjusted to the right speck. Second I don’t know what the stator is I will look into that right now. Thanks for your ideas.

So I guess you set the points to break (open) @ 1.8mm btdc .. gaping the points to 12 thou at tdc does not do the job, best get a dti and a ciggie paper to ensure the points open at the correct time ... from this you may understand the spec is wrong via most after market manuals !!
Regards Jim
