Hi, I have an orange and white 1980 DT125,
I bought a Suzuki RV90 for a 300 dollars and the owner threw this bike in for free because it wasn't running. The chipmunks built a nest in the DT125's air box and the reeds had seeds sticking them open. It does start once in a while after a ton of kicks. My foot is getting sore though. Once I get it running I need to keep my hand on the throttle to keep it running. The plug getts all carbed up and I need to change it frequently. Here is what I've done to the bike: 1.) I've tried rebuilding the carb, it has a new float, new orifice, new seat, needle, and I cleaned it and blew it out with carb cleaner. 2.) I put a new piston, rings and head gaskets on the bike. I didn't hone the bore, but it looked good. Here is what I have not done yet: The battery is really old, and has not been replaced in 10 years. The fuel tank has not been cleaned out. I have not adjusted the oil feeding system. I have not checked the compression. It has a spark, I'm not sure if it is enough, but it does spark. I see gas ahead of and behind the powder metal fuel filter in the fuel line leading to the carb. Here are my questions: Does the DT125 need a new battery to run well? How much compression should I see with this bike? Does this bike have points or is it electronic ignition? Any other suggestions on how to get this bike running right? |
